If you have internet access, you can create a slide deck with something like Google Presentations. Another option is to download Open Office which is free and has a presentation application. I would suggest posting single screens for each event rather than a copy of a calendar. They likely wouldn't be able to read it anyway.

I am starting a job on monday where they told me they create a calendar for the Residents (it's an Assisted Living Facility) -- so they can check the calendar and see what is going on on each day for the month. first they print it out on 11x17 paper and then they project it onto a flat screen on the wall so that all the Residents can go to the flat screen and look and see what is happening. I do not have PP on my computer and am trying to learn this from watching tutorials on YouTube. Help?

Thanks deelybob, I agree, I could have done better with the speaking portion. I created it in more of a hurry than I should have. I think I've gotten better at this but the "ums" and other speaking faux pas in this presentation could have been cleaned up. Even the content, while I think isn't quite as disjointed as you describe could have been tighter. I'm always learning.

Your video is an excellent example of how even a good PowerPoint presentation can't make up for speaking skills. I am not trying to be rude but I could not make it past 5 minutes because your speaking style wanders so much and is frankly rather boring. When talking about a specific idea you are to the point and very lively, but in between there are lots of "ums" and it doesn't seem that you actually thought out this presentation. Great slides aside, you are back to a deadly boring lecture.

Great video. I disagree with the "no using templates" idea, as I make my own which is very minimal and basic so attention is kept. However, my school is full of students who just throw animation and sounds in their presentations EVERYWHERE. So I'm totally against animations and transitions. Thanks :D

Your 5-15-45 minute, 3 main points, 3 supporting points, 3 detail points structure is obviously taken from Cliff Atkinson's book, Beyond Bullet Points. Given that this book was a top-5 seller on Amazon for a while, it is a safe bet that many of your viewers are familiar with the BBP structure. You should give credit to Mr. Atkinson for his ideas, which you seem to have borrowed liberally.

Actually, there were quite a few slides in there that needed to be more clear. I suggest you address only one idea per slide. Don't use bullet points at all. Bullet points are unique ideas and if you have two or more bullet points, then you are trying to explain more than one idea per slide. Put them on separate slides. That is the best way to find the meaning and strip away all the extraneous junk. It also facilitates better recall in your audience.

You can time how long a slide holds / set triggers / control speed of animation and slides in powerpoint - just google it and you'll probably find some good tutorials. Also, for exact timing I popped the entire video file after capturing into a video editing software to create slight slow-mo or cuts to make things match perfectly to my song.

Keynotes may have nice templates, but there is just no where near as much customization availble in Keynotes as there is in Office. PowerPoint is much more powerfull, and I love 2007. 2010 is going to be a blast!

Ok, let me fill you in on something. I fix computers as a side job. I fix computers for my neighbors, relatives, and friends. Guess how many of these computers were macs? None of them. Every single computer I have ever fixed was a windows computer. Every single one. Whenever I had to fix those computers, they generally had an uncountable amount of viruses and spyware. If I am a dumbass, so is the rest of the world, because unlike you, the majority of windows users will face instability issues.

Apple Keynote was built with compatibility (since back in 2003) and it read/play both .ppt files and keynote (.key) files. Can Powerpoint 2010 read/play keynote files/presentations?

@swiftmpc Wrong again. Windows can be booted on any intel mac natively, using bootcamp. Natively, meaning it is not virtualized. Of course, virtualization via VMware fusion or parallels is also an option to, but bootcamp is free, and runs windows natively, meaning I can run crysis on all very high settings on for example, a 24, or 27" iMac. Finally, my computers are stuffed with 4 gigs of memory standard, and windows, due to poor coding still requires restarting once every couple of days.

Not really, you have to use emulation that isn't guaranteed to work, whereas all I have to do is put the disc in. And if you have an issue with keeping windows running for more than a couple days, than clearly you need to seek your attention in computer specs rather than different operating systems.

That crappy operating system you speak of can be left on for months at a time without crashing, where as my experience with windows required that I shut down windows at least once every few days. Oh, and btw, we can use bootcamp to install windows for games. Guess that just destroyed your argument, huh?

Seriously, when people have keynote presentations, they look like creative geniuses. Well, its good to know that microsoft has finally improved powerpoint, but that means that Apple's pages 2010 will be even better!
